The training of the members of the Crisis Communication Cell (CCC) Căușeni continued in June with practical workshops on public communication and organizational development of the network. International experts Patrick Batarilo (Germany) and Liana Khachatryan (Armenia) shared their international experience in developing such a network with the members of the CCC Căușeni.
Communication and media interaction skills are essential for the members of a crisis communication network to react operationally in crisis situations and to inform citizens objectively and correctly. To this end, the ten members of the CCC practiced with Patrick Batarilo and Sorina Ștefîrță techniques for drafting messages, making public statements in emergency situations and giving interviews.
International trainer Patrick Batarilo analyzed the messages developed and the participants' performance on camera and advised CCC members to use clear language, a confident demeanor and practical tricks to manage emotions when making public statements or giving interviews to journalists.
One of the CCC Căușeni members Iulia Culicenco says that this activity was very useful as she learned how to give a short and clear statement and how to manage emotions in front of the camera: "The practical filming exercises during the CCC training gave us some lessons/examples on how it is good and correct to convey information in the context of a crisis, also in front of cameras. It was the first time I did such exercises, and I definitely marked both strengths and things to improve from my own example and that of my colleagues. I will use these best practices, which were new and very useful for me, in my activities."
For the internal organization of the CCC work and the distribution of roles in the team it is necessary that each member of the network knows what responsibilities he/she has and understands that the success of the team work depends on each team member. Hence, the topics of internal group structure and organization, distribution of team roles were part of the agenda of another practical session moderated by international trainer Liana Khachatryan. She pointed out that the distribution of roles in a team was crucial for the operational and professional performance of the activities planned.
As a result of this session, each CCC member was assigned a team role followed by various responsibilities. CCC member Iulia Velixar mentions that the training she attended was dynamic, interesting and contained a great deal of useful information: "The examples from the trainer's experience complemented the material presented and contributed to a better understanding. I have a better understanding of what an organization looks like, what kind of structure it can have, and how the organizational structure affects the efficiency and productivity of a team. Thanks to the experience and competence of the trainer, we have formed a well-structured team with a defined work plan and delegated responsibilities by the end of the training."
Between August and October 2024, the members of the network, together with the project experts and consultants, will prepare a thematic information package with various explanatory materials on the topic "Practical tips for everyone's safety," to include recommendations for citizens in case of droughts, storms, earthquakes, floods, fires, including vegetation fires, and others. The information materials will be distributed both in Căușeni and in the neighboring villages.
These activities are part of the "TRIMEDIA – Trustworthy Reporting, Impactful Media, Engaged Communities” project, jointly implemented by DW Akademie and the Association of Independent Press, with financial support from the European Union and co-funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
