21 October 2019

The Association of Independent Press (API) is launching the project “Regional Civil Society and Media Outlets In Support of European Reforms, Sustainable Development and Citizen Participation in Strengthening Local Democracy.”

The Association of Independent Press (API) is launching the project “Regional Civil Society and Media Outlets In Support of European Reforms, Sustainable Development and Citizen Participation in Strengthening Local Democracy.” The project will be implemented between October 2019 and September 2021, and aims to provide financial support, training and professional assistance to regional civil society organizations and media for promoting the European values in the regions.

The activities will be implemented by API in the following two years, as part of the Citizens’ Empowerment in the Republic of Moldova Project, funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

At the first stage of the project, API in partnership with GIZ will select 15 local partners, civil society organizations or partnerships of NGOs and media outlets from various regions of the country, to benefit from training programs and consulting services from the best Moldovan experts. Later, the partners will also enjoy grants of up to EUR 15,000 for producing and disseminating promotional materials on the European assistance for sustainable development.

The training and consulting programs will cover such topics as production of innovative media content; communication strategies; organization of public events; and advocacy tools. The local partners will thus have the possibility to develop their skills in producing professional media content that would promote the EU values and its support for the sustainable development of Moldova’s regions. The project partners will also attend trainings in the organization of public debates, to discuss with the citizens about the EU assistance for regional development, the quality of public services in their localities and their participation in decision-making.

In the project’s second year, API will hold a broad public information and awareness-raising campaign on the European values and the support offered by the EU for the modernization of the Republic of Moldova.
