Within the Media Forum in the Republic of Moldova 2016, which will be organized on 2-3 December 2016 in Chisinau, two master classes by foreign experts will be held. One of the experts is David Barstow, American journalist, senior editor of The New York Times, three times Pulitzer Prize winner for investigative reporting (2013, 2009) and for public service (2004).
The American journalist will give a master class entitled “Art of Investigative Interviewing” and will speak based on his own experience of more than 30 years about important elements of journalist investigation - from idea to publication.
Throughout his career, David Barstow has been awarded a number of prizes for his investigative articles. In 2013, together with Alejandra von Xanic Bertrab, he won the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting that exposed how Wal-Mart used widespread bribery to obtain permits and gain a competitive advantage in Mexico. In 2009 he won Pulitzer Prize for a series of articles that revealed how some retired generals, working as radio and television analysts, had been co-opted by the Pentagon to make its case for the war in Iraq.
In 2004, D. Barstow was awarded a Pulitzer for articles about death and injury among American workers and exposure of employers who break basic safety rules.
Note: Pulitzer Prize was established in 1904 by the American (Hungarian-born) journalist Joseph Pulitzer and is awarded annually for outstanding achievements: reports, photographs, novels and music recordings. Prizewinner is also granted the amount of $ 10,000.
Within journalistic community Pulitzer Prize is deemed to be equal to the Nobel Prize awarded to researchers or the Oscar awarded in cinema.
