Awareness-raising training sessions on the gender issue for mass-media..
35 representatives of newspapers, news agencies, online information media, including websites, information portals and blogs, took part in the two specialized training sessions entitled „The gender dimension in mass media. Integrating versus ignoring: for a gender-sensitive mass-media”, unfolded by API in the first week of this December.  more 

Citizens – the most demanding auditors of local authorities..
The population must be very well informed about the process of drafting and adopting local-level decisions, because the quality of the information process directly influences upon the outcome of the respective decision. Such was the conclusion equally agreed by the participants to the round table „Practices for involving citizens in the decision-taking process and monitoring the use of public money”, event organized by the Association of Independent Press (API), in Orhei town, on November 27 this year.  more 

Accountants and newspaper directors trained on taxation system..
„Tax control: types and techniques, tax administration in Moldova, amendments to the legislation in force, tax statements and sanctions – these were several subjects approached during the training course on the topic: „Taxation in Republic of Moldova: management and opportunities”, intended for API-member newspapers, which was developed on November 16 this year in Chisinau.  more 

API-member newspapers would like to have a Code of the Photojournalist..
A group of journalists from API-member newspapers took part in the training seminar in the field of photojournalism, developed on November 2, 2012. This activity represents a follow-up to the training „Photojournalism techniques in print and electronic media”, which took place in July this year. The participants suggested that a Photojournalist’s Ethics Code should be elaborated, document which would guide API-member newspapers in their day-to-day activity.  more 

Journalists trained how to mirror subjects on the use of public funds..
On October 26 this year, API organized a training session intended for journalists on the topic „Covering subjects on the use of public funds”. The participants were trained by one investigative journalist and one lawyer on how to reflect cases involving eventual defalcations of public money by authorities.  more 

The first edition of „Obiectiv European” supplement issued..
The first edition of „Obiectiv European” supplement published by the Association of Independent Press (API) was issued, under a project financed by the East-European Foundation and „Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung” Foundation. The supplement is distributed free-of-charge with four API-member newspapers, including a national newspaper - „Jurnal de Chişinău” – and three regional ones: „Observatorul de Nord” (Soroca), „Cuvântul” (Rezina) and „Gazeta de Sud” (Cimişlia).  more

18.09.2012 / The Board of Directors of the Association of Independent Press (API) addressed a complaint to the Government of R. Moldova, Parliament of R. Moldova and National Agency for Protection of Competition, requesting the authorities to interfere for eliminating the abusive terms which the State Enterprise „Poşta Moldovei” established for the distribution of newspapers and magazines.  more 

API continues training sales managers in the view of attracting publicity for newspapers..
How to draft an official letter and a commercial offer? How to plan the activity of newspaper’s Advertising Department? Data base and methods for searching information about customers. Telephone negotiations: „agent-client”. These are some of the subjects raised by journalists and experts under the second training course: “Efficient sales of publicity in newspapers”, organized by API in Chisinau, on September 7 this year.  more

What is a good media photograph and how to do it, what are the main elements of a photograph, what is the essence of „caption” – these are some of the questions which were addressed by the 22 participants at the training session „Photo-journalism techniques in print and electronic media” unfolded by API on July 13-14 this year. The answers were provided by the trainers Nicolae Pojoga and Constantin Grigoriţă  more 

Sales managers trained how to attract publicity for newspapers..
During June 28-29 this year, API developed the training session „Selling newspaper publicity efficiently”. The training course was attended by sales managers from API-member newspaper offices, as well as other potential publicity agents. The trainees were interested in learning new methods of attracting publicity for newspapers.  more 

Parliamentary hearings on media independence and freedom of speech..
On Friday, June 29, the Parliament of R. Moldova unfolded hearings on media independence and freedom of speech. It was for the first time that representatives of two mass-media non-governmental organizations - Corina Cepoi from Independent Journalism Center and Petru Macovei from the Association of Independent Press, were invited to report on the above topics from central Parliamentary tribune.  more 

Debate on the draft law “Regarding the protection of children against the negative impact of public information”..
Mass-media institutions could be punished for spreading information which bears a negative impact upon children. In this context, a legislative initiative was registered by a group of Parliament deputies (Liliana Palihovici, Ghenadie Ciobanu, Valeriu Ghileţchi, Petru Ştirbate, Maria Nasu, Elena Frumosu, Lilian Zaporojan). On Wednesday, May 30 this year, the initiative was publicly discussed involving the authors of the draft law, representatives of the Press Council, National Child Abuse Prevention Center, Alliance of active NGOs in the field of Child and Family Social Protection, Broadcasting Coordination Council, State Agency for Protection of Morality, Department of infants and human rights from General Prosecutor’s Office, child’s Parliamentary lawyer and other experts.  more 

Campaign „Call to account for public money!”: contest for mayoralties and local mass-media..
The mayoralties ensuring the best implication of citizens in the decision-taking process and mass-media institutions conducting the most efficient local campaigns for monitoring the use of public money will be awarded by the Association of Independent Press (API). The winners selected as a result of an open contest will benefit from prizes varying between 300 and 1000 US dollars.  more

Publishers and officials discussed the economic development of print press..
The revision of the tariff policy conducted by the national press distributor State Enterprise „Poşta Moldovei”, the publishers’ access to information about their subscribers, decentralization of provided services – these were several requirements forwarded by print press publishers from Republic of Moldova during the meeting with representatives of the Parliamentary Commission for culture, education, research, youth, sport and mass-media, of the State Enterprise „Poşta Moldovei”, Minister of Finance, State Tax Inspectorate and Customs Service.  more

On May 4 this year, API gladly launched the poster „10 golden rules for journalists writing about children”. The event occurred under the exhibition „Mass-media and child’s rights”, organized by the Investigative Journalism Center.  more 

Lucia Bacalu elected as Chairwoman of the Association of Independent Press (API)..
On May 3 this year, during the General Assembly Meeting of API members, Mrs. Lucia Bacalu, Manager of „Expresul” newspaper from Ungheni, was elected as API Chairwoman for a two-year mandate.  more

During April 6-7 this year, the Association of Independent Press (API) organized the training session “Business models and strategies for newspapers”. The activity aimed at training newspaper managers in the new-media field.  more 

Chisinau municipality lacks a strategic approach able to ensure the transparency of the budgetary process and the use of public money..
The Association of Independent Press (API) has launched the final work report issued by the team for monitoring the use of public money in Chisinau municipality. Following nine months of monitoring, the report encompasses general outcomes and recommendations of the monitoring team addressing Chisinau Mayoralty and Chisinau Municipal Council, meant to enhance the transparency and efficiency of using public money, the citizens’ involvement in the decision-taking process and control over the execution of the municipal budget.  more

On March 23 this year, the Association of Independent Press (API) organized the training session „API’s financial viability by augmenting the income generated by profitable alternative activities - publicity”. Apart from the trainer Veceslav Perunov, this training activity was attended by sales managers and other representatives of API-member newspapers.  more 

Overalls of „Call to account for public money!” 2011 campaign summed up..
On February 29 this year, Chisinau hosted a round table for assessing the activities carried out for monitoring the transparency and efficiency of public money use in Chisinau municipality, under the campaign “Call to account for public money!” The event was attended by more than 30 officials from Chisinau administration, Heads of general directions of Chisinau Municipal Council, delegates of the Ministry of Finances, Public Procurement Agency, Court of Accounts, experts and journalists.  more 

Disfavored persons mirrored by press..
The Association of Independent Press (API) has launched the Report on monitoring print press and information portals, entitled „Disfavored persons mirrored by press”, during a round table which was attended by publishers and representatives of disfavored and minority groups. Throughout November-December 2011, API monitored 22 mass-media institutions in the view of determining the degree of correctness of the publishing content which covered topics featuring disfavored and minority-group persons.  more 

Awards for promoting child’s rights in mass-media..
Chisinau, February 23, 2012 – The Association of Independent Press (API) is glad to announce the results of journalistic materials contest on the topic related to promotion of child’s rights in mass-media. The winners received valuable prizes, namely necessary equipment for their journalistic activity. The contest was possible due to the financial support of UNICEF Office in Moldova.  more

On February 15 this year, API organized the third training session for journalists on the topic „Ethical norms for elaboration and documentation of articles on condition/rights of disfavored and minority group persons”. The seminar was attended by 16 young journalists who work in local and national media institutions, as well as by students of the Faculty of Journalism.  more

API has launched the second activity report issued by the team for monitoring the use of public money in Chisinau municipality. The report encompasses data and information covering the period September – December 2011.  more
